March Preview

27Feb09

March is gearing up to be a very busy month for races. Jonny is off to compete at the British Long Distance Orienteering Championship on Saturday down in the New Forest beside Southampton. He has entered the Elite class and will be up against the best orienteers in the country (no pressure). The NI Colour Series also starts in March with the first event at Somerset Forest on the 7th and the second one being held not too far away at Coleraine’s University of Ulster Campus on the 21st. Continuing your orienteering fix there will be an NI Army League O event being held on the 8th down at Tollymore Forest. LVO’s second Spring Cup event takes place in March and this time will be located at Parkanaur Forest Dungannon on the 14th.

On the AR front the first of the 2009 CCAR races kicks off with Round 1 and 2 on the 7/8th March. The area covered will be the same as last year with the starting point at Meelmore Lodge. Rowan is still nursing a leg injury and reluctantly will be sitting out these first two rounds, but Julie Murphy has agreed to step in and race with Paul under the Joes’s banner. Finally the last, but just as important, event for March will be the 1st round of the new Trailbrazers MTB Trailquest series. Organiser/Planner Des Fletcher has opted for the quite country lanes surrounding beautiful Claudy up in the North West. The area includes the sheltered Burntollet valley and Loughermore forest.
